In addition to creating drawings and plans for components, layouts or technical elements, technical system planners are the contact persons when it comes to implementing these constructions. They are in constant contact with engineers on the one hand, but also with clients on the other. On building sites, they check the work of fitters and adjust plans retrospectively in accordance with the changes.

The work of a technical system planner is all about technically correct and feasible planning and implementation of projects in steel and mechanical engineering, for electronic systems or for supply and equipment engineering.

The following activities are carried out:

• Production of drawings and plans using CAD software
• Carrying out component calculations, for example
• Reliable differentiation between different materials n
• Defining and planning assembly technology for the next steps
• Prepare parts lists for components n
• Assess and evaluate the implementation of the plans

During the training to become a technical system planner, payment starts at around EUR 900 at the start of the training and around EUR 1,100 in the final year of training. After that, depending on the industry, the size of the company and the region, a gross salary of between EUR 2,400 and EUR 3,000 per month can be expected.

In order to fulfil the requirements in the various departments, good knowledge of various software packages is a prerequisite. .These include:

• AutoCAD - CAD software for creating precise 2D and 3D drawings
• Revit - planning and documentation solution for the construction industry
• MicroStation - architecture and construction software
• DIALux - lighting system planning software /li>
• Solidworks - software for 3D CAD construction, simulation and product data management

The job market is attractive for technical system planners. Employees in technical professions are desperately wanted, and the number of employees who are retiring will exceed the number of qualified personnel coming onto the market in the next few years. There will therefore be a sufficient number of vacant training opportunities. Trainees also often have the opportunity to be employed by their training company and therefore gain some initial professional experience.

If the training is not enough for you, you can take advanced courses in CAD or electrical engineering or take further training to become a certified designer, technical (certified) business economist or engineer in the field of machining. An additional degree in electrical engineering or supply engineering also opens up new career opportunities with an appropriate salary increase.

A 3.5 year dual training course is required to become a technical system planner (formerly a technical draughtsperson). School lessons alternate with working at the company, either in blocks or on a daily basis. Even before the start of their training, the trainees decide on a field in which they will specialize during their training:

• "Supply and equipment engineering" (VAT), which deals with the distribution of heat and water in buildings.
• "Steel and metal construction engineering" (SMT), the focus here is on the planning and construction of lightweight and metal structures, such as sheet metal components, steel stairs or anti-fall protection.
• "Electrotechnical Systems" (ETS), building technical systems, drive systems and communication systems for different buildings are planned.

In all three subjects, the trainees are qualified in labour law and computer-aided design, and prepared for processing customer orders.
